Sage Hill Students Win First Place at AngelHack Los Angeles
A team of three Sage Hill students won first place and other prizes at the AngelHack Los Angeles Hackathon on June 15.
Ryan Simpson ‘19, Jackie Ni ‘20 and Timothy Guo ‘20 created and presented a decentralized basketball game with digital basketball players called Etherball for the competition. Most of the other teams were full of experienced coding experts -- Etherball was the only high school student team in the competition.
The AngelHack Challenge is to “challenge yourself and your entrepreneurial spirit. Make something innovative without limits, something that brings positive change to the world, even something that solves a small problem. It’s that simple,” according to its event website.
AngelHack is a premiere event in the innovation and coding field. The first-place team at all AngelHack events around the globe is invited to join the Hackcelerator Program. The program begins August 6 and runs for 12 weeks.
After 12 weeks, the most successful teams will be invited to San Francisco for additional training and Silicon Valley Week. They will then have the opportunity to pitch during Global Demo Day next year, network with investors and experience the excitement of the Valley.
Aside from the team’s first place win, Simpson, Ni and Guo also won prizes from different sponsors who issue challenges for the event: Dollar Shave Club, High Brew Coffee and Consensys.
